- The first step to getting the perfect messy, “beachy” texture is to apply a texturing spray infused with sea salt. This is going to imitate the same texture you would get after spending a day at the ocean. I used Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturing Sea Salt Spray.
- Run your fingers through your hair to distribute the product. You can also use a brush to comb it through, depending on how messy you want the braid to look.
- Begin braiding a basic fishtail braid. If you don’t know how to fishtail, check out Elizabeth’s tutorial.
- Once you have braided as far as you can, tie with a clear elastic and start gently pulling at the sides of the braid. This will make the look more un-done and messy as well as make your braid appear thicker.
- Take the majority of the top layers that have fallen out of the braid and pin them up into a bouffant. (Keep a few strands down so it doesn’t look too neat).
- Apply a light misting of hairspray to keep it perfectly messy all day long.
